Suddenly, 80% of the people who approach me ask if a full SEO service is included with my web design services. Well, design is one thing, SEO is a whole different game. I understand them, after all, everyone knows good SEO is a must to rank well on Google. But no one knows what the heck SEO really is.
SEO is a really technical thing, made of several steps, that takes time and dedication to make it actually work well in your favor. There is simply no way around it.
On my post SEO in 10 Steps, you’ll definitely find steps that will help improve any website or blog SEO results. But as I usually tell the creatives I work with: “SEO is a beast. No one will rank on Google’s first page because they have taken a couple of good steps on their sites SEO-related tech areas.”
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. This optimization is a process. the search engines are smart -not a thing we can trick into loving our websites at first sight. Let me break it down a bit…
Different search engines have different things they consider as a priority. Google may consider your blog page more valuable, while Bing may consider your About page more interesting. Therefore, according to the way they are built, they’ll read your content and rank it differently. Credibility, for one, is something very important to any website or blog -so the more secure and popular your website or blog is, the more chances it has to rank well. Realistically, what brand new website or blog is that secure or popular? Brand new sites simply had no time to prove to Google that they are “nice, filled with good intentions, and dedicated to offering good and valuable content to people on the internet,” so don’t expect Google to just rank it well.

website optimization means:
- Your website has a clean and well structured code
- Your website is secure
- It has content that is organized and uses headers well (h1, h2, h3…)
- Your site has good internal and external links
- You have a good sitemap in place and your sitemap has been submitted to search engines
- Your site is constantly updated with relevant content (preferably with links to the main topic on a page/post)
THE LIST GOES ON AND ON. SO, YEAH, IT IS A PROCESS. ON THE OTHER HAND, THERE ARE BLOGS WHO NEVER DID ANY OF THOSE TECHNICAL THINGS AND STILL RANK WELL (THAT COULD BE BECAUSE THEY HAVE BEEN ACTIVE FOR A LONG TIME, OR FOR BEING POPULAR -AND THEREFORE TRUSTWORTHY, ETC).
SEO IS NOT EASY. IT IS NOT “GRASPED” QUICKLY. BUT IT IS DOABLE, IF YOU DEDICATE YOURSELF TO IT. THE IMPORTANT THING TO KEEP IN MIND IS THAT PLATFORMS LIKE SQUARESPACE AND WEEBLY ARE MOSTLY SEO-READY ON THEIR OWN. AND FOR WORDPRESS USERS, THERE ARE GREAT PLUGINS THAT WILL HELP OPTIMIZE your webSITE EASILY.
